Welcome to Third Grade!

My name is Maddisen Callahan (formerly known as Ms. McCall) and I am very excited to be your child's teacher this school year!

Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to become a teacher. I attended Arizona State University and graduated in 2022 with my bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education & Special Education. I have endorsements in Gifted Education and Structured English Immersion as well. This will be my fourth year teaching and I can truly say that Third Grade is my happy place! While in college I met my husband, Kyle. We recently married this past May and are expecting a little boy in December! Some random fun facts about myself are:

- I am a HUGE Philadelphia Eagles fan! Go Birds!

- I am a dog mom to a pup named Rocky!

- I completed my year of student teaching HERE at Sonoran Foothills with Mrs. Hartman in Third Grade! Go Bobcats!

This is going to be a WONDERFUL school year full of learning and fun! I look forward to partnering with you to ensure your child's academic journey exceeds expectations. I believe in open communication and building positive relationships with all students and parents. Our classroom functions best as one giant family! About Our Classroom

Classroom Expectations

Classroom Behavior- Students will use TRACKS cards to log their behavior. Parents should sign their child's card at the end of each week. Monthly reward parties will take place for students who earn more positives than negatives in the given month. In addition, we have a classroom TRACKS store that is open every Friday morning. Students may use their positives to purchase something from our store.

Reading Homework- Students will receive a weekly reading log each Monday, and are expected to read 20 minutes each night (Monday through Thursday). There are two sides to the reading log, a Fiction side and Non-Fiction side. Students are expected to complete ONE side of questions based on the type of book they chose to read that week. Completed reading logs are due each Friday.

Math Homework- (If your student receives math services from Mrs. Johnson, please disregard this section.) Students will bring home one worksheet each week with questions aligned to our current math skill/standard. Third grade math strongly focuses on Multiplication and Division. It is highly encouraged that students practice their multiplication facts at home. Flash cards or online math games are a great way to help your student gain automaticity.

Projects- In Third grade we complete many fun projects! Communication through email and paper rubrics will always be sent home beforehand. Some fun projects you can look forward too are: Passport Project, Arizona Diorama, Disguise a Turkey, and more!

Snack & Water- Please provide your student with a healthy daily snack. Our lunch time is at 12:10pm this year! I will set aside time each day for our students to enjoy their snack and refuel their brain for our busy morning. Our Arizona summer temperatures are very warm and staying hydrated is extremely important. Please pack your student with a water bottle each day!

Mystery Reader

A fun surprise I like to do with my class is a "Weekly Mystery Reader!"

I will give the class 3 hints about you throughout the week. On your scheduled day, you get to surprise the class and read your favorite story/book to them. You will be given around 15 minutes to read.
