Hello Second Grade Parents,

My name is Mrs. Carrie Moric and I am thrilled to embark on my 21st year of teaching here at Sonoran Foothills. Over the years, I have had the joy of teaching students from kindergarten through fifth grade, and this will be my fifth year specifically teaching second grade.

Outside of the classroom, I cherish spending time with my wonderful family. My husband and I live on a ranch with our three kids, a dog, a barn cat, chickens, and ducks! Living on a ranch allows us to enjoy nature every day, and we love taking care of our animals.

When I’m not busy with school or ranch activities, you can often find me immersed in a good book. Reading is one of my greatest passions, and I'm always eager to discover new stories and adventures. I also enjoy staying active through walking and tending to my garden. Something about tending to my garden brings me a sense of peace, and calmness.

I am truly excited to meet each of your children and embark on this journey together in second grade. I am confident that we will have an amazing year filled with learning, growth, and fun memories. In Mrs. Moric's classroom we will: 

"Work Hard. Be Kind. Be Safe"

Homework will be assigned Monday through Thursday. We will also have a few long-range projects that will require work on other evenings. In general, homework will not be assigned over the weekends or vacations. Daily homework should be completed that evening and returned to school the next day unless otherwise instructed. All homework assignments will be recorded daily in your child’s assignment notebook. I will show students how to use their notebook and each day we will make time to record assignments. The assignment notebook should be brought to school every day. Please plan on approximately 20 minutes of nightly homework, not including reading time. Homework should consist of 20 minutes of assigned work and another 15-20 minutes of reading a night. 

Snack - We set aside time each morning for a healthy snack. Each student is responsible for bringing his or her own individually wrapped snack each day. Some examples of appropriate snacks are: fresh fruits, vegetables, yogurt, string cheese, or combinations of these. Please help me and your child by not sending sweets, chips, or any other “junk food” items. I appreciate your cooperation in advance. I also encourage your child to bring in a water bottle to keep at school for the hot days ahead. 

Parent Communication - Email is a convenient, efficient way to communicate. Emails will receive a response within twenty-four hours on school days. During the school day, when I am either with your children or preparing for their instruction, it may not be possible to read and respond to messages until after the school day is over. Dismissal Messages - Messages regarding dismissal changes may be sent the previous day or before 8:45 in the morning by email. In the event of an emergency which arises during the school day and needs to be communicated, the best course of action would be to contact the school office. It would also be helpful to notify the school office in the event of any absences or early dismissals. 

*Main Communication will be utilized through Class Dojo to communicate about upcoming school events and projects. I will also use this platform to share pictures of our learning that takes place within our classroom! Reminders and mass emails will be sent through the messaging feature on Class Dojo.
